While it’s being billed as an NBA In-Season Tournament tilt, it’s better recognized as a rematch of West foes from a memorable Round 1 matchup from last season.
The Los Angeles Lakers seek their fifth straight home win to start the year, pegged as 4.5-point favorites in the NBA odds as they host the struggling Memphis Grizzlies.
Memphis dropped eight of their first nine to start the year, before getting a W last game against the Clippers.

The star power has been sapped from this one, with Ja Morant serving a 25-game suspension and LeBron James (calf) listed as questionable. Anthony Davis (hip) is listed as probable, though.
For the Memphis Grizzlies, the scoring burden has been carried by Desmond Bane. The 2020 first-round pick from TCU led Memphis to a 105-101 win over the Clips, scoring 27 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds.
He had plenty of support, as four of the five starters scored in double figures, including Luke Kennard coming off the bench to drill four triples, finishing with 13 points.
Bane hasn’t been a stranger to scoring outbursts: he’s already scored 30 or more points in five of 10 Games this season. He’s doing some heavy lifting from beyond the arc, hitting at a 35.4% rate on just a tick under 10 attempts per Game.
He's hit at least three 3-pointers in all but two games on the year and has drilled four or more from distance in four games. Prior to the L.A. game, he nailed a season-high 7-for-11 from beyond the arc, part of a season-high 37 points in a 127-121 loss to Utah.
His marksmanship against the Los Angeles Lakers, however, hasn’t been sharp. In two regular-season games a year ago, he failed to nail a triple on seven attempts across two games. In fact, in six regular season games against L.A., Bane has only crossed his 3.5 makes total once.
And that’s not counting last year’s playoff flameout, where Bane went Over 3.5 3-point makes once in the six-Game series, hitting at a discouraging 32%.
With no other dynamic scorer/creator on the roster, the Lakers have enough solid defenders that can handle him on the wing, force him off the 3-point line, and put it on the deck, funneling him into the waiting wings of Davis.
Bane will still lead the team in scoring, but at a lot of volume — not enough of it coming from downtown.

Let’s stick with the Grizzlies’ backcourt and the struggles of the newest starter, Marcus Smart.
It’s been a forgettable November for the ex-Celtic, who's shooting a dismal 35.8% from the field, including an even more bleak 19.4% from beyond the arc. That’s a far cry from his October, where he averaged 17.3 points on 53.1% shooting from the field and 39.3% from distance in four games.
The good news is he’s coming off his first decent outing in the last five, going for 17 points, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range in the win over the Clips.
He’s also been strong against the Lakers in L.A., crossing that 12.5-point total in each of the last four outings, averaging 17.3 points on 51% shooting from the field. Look for him to find his game against a familiar foe.
While I may have gotten burned by the Lakers last Game in going Under the total in my parlay, these are two teams that struggle to put the ball in the basket.
The Lakers are better at home but are scoring just 113 points per game. Three-point shooting consistently holds them back, as they're hitting at a bottom-feeding 30.4%, and an even more dreadful 26.2% at home.

Grizzlies vs Lakers spread and Over/Under analysis
There hasn't been much movement on the spread, with the line settling mostly at 4.5 points, with a half-point of movement to either side.
Both teams have struggled mightily against the spread. Each side has gone 3-7-0 ATS over their first 10 Games. Only the Bucks (1-8-1 ATS) own a worse record in the association.
As for the total, most books are offering the line at 227.5, but you can also find them at 226.5. Memphis and Los Angeles share identical 4-6-0 Over/Under records.
